Role of genes, cell development and reproduction in conifers.

Identification and characterization of the genes that regulate somatic embryogenesis and reproduction in conifers; functional genomics of transcription factors in conifers; development of new transformation vectors in genetic engineering of conifers; long-term characterization of transgenic spruce.

Education

Biochemist with a bachelor’s degree (1978), a master’s degree in cell biology (1982) and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Carleton University, Ottawa (1986). Completed postdoctoral studies at Agriculture Canada on herbicide resistance in genetically modified canola (1989).
