Responsibilities:
- Manage the National Tree Seed Centre to collect, store, and provide seed of known origin and quality from native tree and shrub species for scientific research and to store seed for long-term genetic conservation
- Direct Canada’s involvement in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development tree seed certification program that is responsible for certifying the origin of seed that is collected for export
- Maintain and update databases of tree genetic experiments established by the Canadian Forest Service
Areas of Interest:
- Seed testing and seed storage

Current Research Projects
- Participate in a national program called CONFORGEN that focuses on the conservation of forest genetic resources through active involvement of the provinces, one territory, First Nations, and Natural Resources Canada
- Contribute to the knowledge information system called CAFGRIS that collects and accesses information about threats to genetic diversity and provides the genetic conservation status of native tree species
- Initiated genetic conservation of ash germplasm by storing seed. This has arisen as a result of the non-native insect, Emerald ash borer, which is killing ash trees. It is important to preserve the genetic variation of the various ash species so that it can be exploited for research
