Profile

  • Joined the Canadian Forest Service in 2009, Canadian Wood Fibre Center in 2010.

Responsibilities:

  • Use of emerging remote-sensing technologies like LiDAR and architectural modeling of forest canopies to characterize at fine-scale the forest structure and measure new structural variables associated with tree quality attributes such as wood fibre.

Areas of knowledge:

  • 3D architectural modelling of vegetation canopies
  • Ground-based and airborne LiDAR remote sensing systems
  • Radiative transfer models of vegetation canopies
  • Characterization of structural properties in forests
  • Computer programming
  • Physics

Current Research Projects

  • The Newfoundland and Labrador fibre project involves chiefly development of inventorying tools and methods for modelling and mapping forest variables associated with wood and fibre qualities. My role consists in applying architectural modelling to derive tree and plot structure from LiDAR data and to support the development of tree/stand level models for mapping fibre attributes.
  • The dynamic temporal inventory project in New-Brunswick aims at developing innovative technologies, tools & techniques to assist the forest industry in optimizing the forest value chain from the resource to the market. More specifically, my main contribution consists to the development of tree-level based predictions for enhanced forest inventory.
  • The Enhanced Quebec Inventory Project (EQuIP) aims at addressing cutting-edge research questions on monitoring the Canadian forest state using terrestrial, airborne and high resolution satellite remote sensing data. This includes the incorporation of predictive rasters from LiDAR into operational planning and prediction of wood quality indices.
