Remarks:
Among Dryas, with Juniperus communis and Pinus albicaulis nearby. Subalpine habitat (low vegetation, pines scattered up to 3 m tall). Cap to 5 cm diam., +/- 20 caps in 1 acre, convex, glabrous, shiny, with weak marginal striations and white appressed patches (univ. veil). Stipe cylindrical, slightly wider at cap, annulus lacking but veil as pale grey layer over lower 2/3 of stem, sometimes interrupted. Volva white, distinct, membraneous, free edge 6 mm tall, cylindrical (not bulbous), 12 mm diam. Flesh white. Gills free, white. Carps partially dry (shrunken) when collected.

Remarks:
On open rocky hillside atop bluff, near Amelanchier alnifolia with Selaginella. 6 cm diam. Spores globose, infreq. Broadly ellipsoid. 5-6 u diam. On 2% KOH wall 0.5-0.7 u thick, dark grey with weak pink tint, spiny. One guttule. Cyl hyphae 2-5 u diam., infrequently branches, walls grey, ca 0.5 u thick.

Remarks:
In dry, knapweed meadow, no trees or shrubs. Gleba powdery, yellow-brown; hyp simple-septate, constricted at septa, 5-28 u; hyp walls pale brown in KOH, smooth, 1 u thick. B'sp ellip to broadly ellip to subglobose, wall yellow-brown, smooth. After 24 h in Cotton Blue the hyp pale blue = cyanophilous, b'spores not clear.

Remarks:
On needle layer under ~40 cm diameter Abies lasiocarpa and Picea engelmannii. Pileus 11.5 cm diam. when fresh. Surface glabrous, grey to pale blueish grey with a few irregular patches of pale orange. Flesh white with 2-4 mm band of pale orange beneath pileipellis and above tubes. Tubes white, 3 mm deep, flesh very fine (not fibrous). Stipe 5 cm long, 1.8 cm diam., narrowing at base. Pore mouths round, white even.

Remarks:
In 2 m diameter fairy ring under Pinus ponderosa and Populus balsamifera ssp. trichocarpa. Spores broadly ellip. Walls thickened, amyloid, ornamented with small warts. Hyp with clamp connections.
