Land Cover will be mapped for the forested area of Canada based on Landsat-7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) data acquired by the Centre for Topographic Information (CTI) and other sources where appropriate. The initial phase of the project will require the 2000 data to be classified in conjunction with CTI´s acquisition and orthorectification schedule. Partnerships with the Provinces and Territories as well as industry and academia are essential to ensure a quality land cover base for Canada. Background, rationale, and a summary of EOSD land cover mapping, including an indication of the production plan and partnerships, is presented in "Mapping the land cover of the forested area of Canada with Landsat data." Cross sector linkages will allow for the complete mapping of Canada. The poster "Monitoring Canada's Forest Cover from Space" also illustrates EOSD land cover.
