Redbelly Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata)

Description:

• 20 - 30 cm
• brown, gray or black with a bright red-orange belly
• three light spots on the nape of the neck

Habitat:

• woodlands, sometimes inhabiting urban areas
• hides under logs and rocks and in woodpiles during the day

Conservation concerns, distribution and status:

• generally common in southern and central Ontario, though absent from some areas
