- Joined the Canadian Forest Service in 1994
James coordinates and carries out field activities and acts as a technical advisor to project leaders of research projects on silviculture, pest management and forest inventories. He also maintains the Stem Analysis Laboratory at the Atlantic Forestry Centre.
Responsibilities:
- Provide scientific support and technical advice to researchers both in the laboratory and field for various research studies
- Study the impact of insect defoliation on tree growth and stand development
- Study the impact of silviculture treatments on tree growth and fibre attributes
- Investigate relationships between mensurational characteristics and fibre attributes
- Study the impact of vegetation management strategies on stand growth and yield
- Maintain the stem analysis laboratory at the Atlantic Forestry Centre
- Knowledge transfer
- Investigate new methods of remote sensing for forest inventory
