- Main research area is on the impacts of climate change and variation on the growth, dieback and regeneration of boreal tree species in western Canada
- Collaborative research activities include tree-ring analysis, forest monitoring and modeling, remote sensing, and tower-based measurements of carbon fluxes
- Developed a simple Climate Moisture Index (CMI) that is being applied to assess drought impacts on Canada’s forests under a changing climate
- Leads a research and monitoring study entitled CIPHA (Climate Impacts on Productivity and Health of Aspen)
- Currently participating in a global overview of drought-induced forest dieback and mortality
