Soil Moisture Index (SMI) (Hogg, E.H., Price, D.T., McKenney, D.W.)
Soil Moisture Index (SMI) is an indicator of drought calculated using daily or monthly weather records of precipitation and temperature, along with elevation and soil water-holding capacity. Lower values indicate drier conditions. The SMI provides a direct measure of soil moisture changes within the rooting zone of trees.
