Remarks:
In soil, the dominant trees were Pseudotsuga menziesii, Thuja plicata, Alnus rubra, Corylus avellana. The Corylus had gone wild from an old orchard above the springs. English ivy covered much of the ground. Fungus (sclerotium) was about the size of a football, weighed 11 lb., and seemed to be made up of compressed soil with hardened soil on the outside. Discovered when making a trail down a hillside on property to some old springs that once were the source of drinking water for the city of Vancouver in the 1800s.
