Fungus name: Leucopaxillus gentianeus (Quél.) Kotl.
Substrate: Soil and Duff
Year of collection (y-m-d): 1997-11-10
Map coordinates: 49.5552°N, -119.5630°W
Collector: Ginns, J.
Determiner: Ginns, J.
Collection location: Turnbull Creek, 540 m elev., Naramata, B.C.
Remarks: Under Pseudotsuga menziesii. Cap plane, 7 cm diam., dry, glabrous, brown with tint grey and yellow (like McKnight's color on Tricholoma flavobrunneum), margin weakly rugose. Flesh white, distinct mealy odour when cut, to 1 cm thick, continuous into stipe, firm. Stipe solid, cyl, slightly larger when inserted into substrate, exterior white with very weak yellow stain where handled but not bruising when scraped, glabrous. Gills adnexed, white, very close, thin. Tastes bitter - lastingly so. The odour (farinaceous) fades quickly to a weak-moderately pungent odour. Fits Leucopaxillus gentianeus except for gill attachment. Colours of cap, gills, and stipe not changing significantly on drying. Spore wall thin, hyaline, echinulate, amyloid, cyanophilous. Heavy spore print white when fresh.
