Remarks: Under Pinus ponderosa in pure pine stand on soil surface. Obovate to subglob. 3 cm. Soft/spongy when collected. Pale yellow brown, some with mottling of burgundy. In sections peridium burgundy in patches, especially at base. Core moist brown to olive brown, merulioid columella lacking. KOH on fresh peridium not causing colour change. Monomitic, tramal hyphae 3-12 um, thin-walled, simple-septa. Hymenium a palisade of infrequent basidia and numerous broadly clavate to subglobose, terminal cells +/- 15 x 8 u with contracted (sunken) contents. PEridium of hyal, thin-walled hyphae, some with inclusions are brown/yellow in KOH and are probably source of burgundy colour.
