Remarks:
Found uprooted on hardpacked trail in second-growth stand of 80% Douglas-fir, 20% Ponderosa pine. Rind firm, 4 mm thick, pallid, crisp with paper-thin grey inner layer which surrounds capillitium; this layer is loose from rind. Capillitium black, stringy, flexible. Spore mass black. Odour strong, acrid, pungent, unfamiliar. Carp 4 cm diameter, pallid. No collumella. Epidermis grey in patches, paper-thin. Hole in carp and scrapings on exterior by squirrel?
