Better site selection
As previously observed for white pine and more recently for Norway spruce, trees located on imperfectly drained sites are more severely attacked (Archambault et al. 1993). Drainage and edge vegetation can affect weevil dynamics within a plantation. Edge trees are more susceptible to initial attack by the weevil. At the beginning of an infestation, weevils first establish on imperfectly drained sites. Interesting observations in Quebec indicate that plantations located on the most productive sites are less affected than those on the least productive sites.
