Post-fire dynamics in the boreal forest
Description
-
Evaluate the factors that affect the quality and quantity of post-fire forest regeneration and subsequent growth. Develop decision-support mapping tools for planning salvage operations and regeneration of burned areas.
-
Characterize the long-term post-fire dynamics for the main types of surficial deposits in the balsam fir-white birch and spruce domains of eastern and western Quebec, while taking the disturbance regimes that affect them into account.
-
Assess the evolution of different landscapes according to various disturbance scenarios (disturbance regime, climate change and/or forest management), particularly to evaluate the sustainability of forestry practices.
