Risks of windthrow associated with the implementation of partial harvest strategies in softwood forests

The implementation of partial cutting in stands before final harvesting is a promising strategy to increase allowable cut in management units that are reaching a critical stage (Lussier et al. 2008). The risk of windthrow is a poorly-documented element that worries managers and that may limit the adoption of this management strategy. This project seeks to quantify the phenomenon in partial cuts carried out in eastern Canada.
