Abstract
The papers in this collection provide nine regional treatments on site classification, preceded by an insightful overview by Stan Rowe as well as an introduction by Richard Sims. The current quantitatively based site classification systems are beginning to occupy important new roles in operational forest management across Canada. Different parts of the country are at different stages in the development and implementation of systems, and philosophies and approaches have varied. There is a need for the development of certain "equivalencies" of terminologies to draw together the common threads that do exist. Forestry Canada's Forest Site Classification Working Group, which initiated the preparation of these papers, will continue to play a role in these activities in coming years.
