Abstract
Geographic Information Systems can be used by the national Forest Insect and Disease Survey (FIDS) to automate infestation map production and to analyze the spatial qualities of insect and disease interaction with the forest. The identification of requirements for spatial data handling resulted in the selection of microcomputer-based Geographic Information Systems for distribution to FIDS regional units.
