Abstract
White spruce, black spruce, jack pine, and red pine seedlings were grown in a greenhouse environment using peat in three types of containers: the Hillson Rootrainer, the styroblock 8 and the Quebec tube. Four and six months after seeding, an analysis of nine variables showed that the styroblock 8 is the best of the three containers for greenhouse production of good-quality seedlings. The Quebec tube was the only container to have seedlings with lateral roots growing downwards in a spiral.
