Abstract
The objectives were to evaluate and compare the solubilization, transformation, fixation, and migration of nitrogen derived from various nitrogenous fertilizers (urea, urea-formaldehyde, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium sulfate) in a sugar maple stand. The soil was a humoferric podzol on sand with a forest floor of the moder type. Regardless of the fertilizer used, effects were measurable only the first three weeks after fertilization, except for urea-formaldehyde, which persists longer, but ceased to release ammonium ions. Urea was selected as the best fertilizer for the site.
