Abstract
Development of the spruce budworm was studied in the laboratory while the insect was subjected to different diets diets comprising foliage of main hosts. The results indicate that the foliage phenology of the host shoot development has little influence on the development of the insect. However, the host given to the insect has a marked influence on its development: white spruce foliage was found to be more favorable to larval development than balsam fir foliage.
