Abstract
In studies on the host-parasite relationships of H. pruinatum, causing a canker on aspen, pyrocatechol was isolated from the bark and was found fungistatic against the pathogen, (Hubbes, M. 1962. Inhibition of Hypoxylon pruinatum by pyrocatechol isolated from bark of aspen. Science 136: 156). Two additional compounds fungistatic against the fungus have since been isolated and studied.
