A jack pine sawfly survey was conducted in 1957 for the fourth consecutive year. The field work was performed by an assistant technician associated with this project since its initiation. In the early part of the season all accessible jack pine stands in a number of regions not covered in previous years were examined for sawfly material. These regions were the Temiscamingue Lake and Lower Ottawa watersheds in the west; the Manicouagan and the Lower St. Lawrence in the east.

In addition a re-inspection of areas investigated in previous years was done in the fall and special attention was given to stands where active infestations had been reported the preceding season.
