Abstract
A previously undescribed branch and stem canker with severe resinosis is reported on balsam fir from Anticosti Island. Some of the diseased trees showed evidence of attack as early as 1937. The incidence of the disease was as high as 75% in some areas.
A Cylindrocarpon sp. was commonly isolated from cankered trees. Symptoms of the disease were reproduced on balsam fir and also on other coniferous species by inoculations with this fungus. This pathogen's relationship to species of Nectria known to occur on conifers is discussed.
