Abstract
The first record of a microsporidian infection in Hymenoptera of the suborder Symphyta is presented. The organism is named Thelohania pristiphorae and a brief description is given. The parasite invades the adipose tissue and is probably transmitted transstadially. Cross-infection tests with larvae of Lepidoptera, Diptera, and other Tenthredinidae, were positive only with Pristophora geniculate and Hemichroa crocea, two tenthredinids. A 20% reduction in a sawfly population is reported.
