Populations of the jack-pine sawfly (Neodiprion swainei Midd.) in jack pine stands surrounding newly established blueberry fields has been studied. Observations carried out before and after the establishment of blueberry fields revealed that jack-pine sawfly populations increased considerably following the establishment of these fields. Such populations threaten the surrounding jack pine resource. The extent and the consequence of such infestations are discussed and recommendations for management of blueberry fields are proposed.
