An experimental crop-tree thinning was made in 1961 in a sampling balsam fir stand in Quebec. Thinning was done by removing all trees within four different fixed radii around selected crop trees. For the sake of comparison, a chemical release was also made. The present report deals with stand and site conditions before thinning, and the thinning operation.
