Abstract
Studies were conducted in 4 study plots in 1976 to determine feeding behaviour and progressive damage to balsam fir throughout the feeding stage of the spruce budworm. Even at high populations defoliation by young larvae was not too serious. Therefore, insecticides could be applied at peak third instar rather than at pre-needle and pre-bud mining stages.
