Abstract
The physical and vegetative characteristics of Bowen Island are described by the author in terms of landscape unit, with each unit being characterized by specific soil properties, substrate, topography and plant associations. Each unit is analyzed in terms of its suitability for residential construction as well as its potential in respect of leisure, wildlife, agriculture and forestry. The author stresses the inherent problems and risks of watershed and coastal development in the various units.
