Optical brighteners function protect baculoviruses from UV. Our results clearly indicate that C. occidentalis was significantly more susceptible to CfMNPV than C. fumiferana (about 60 times), and that 1% Tinopal LPW enhanced CfMNPV against C. occidentalis at a higher level than against C. fumiferana (about 84 times versus 4 times). The optical brighteners at 1% was not toxic to larvae of either species.
