Abstract
Susceptibility of different larval stages of balsam fir sawfly, Neodiprion abietis (Harris) to Neemix 4.5 EC, a commercial neem preparation, was determined by using foliage dip bioassays. Larval responses to neem were concentration dependent. The LC50 values on 12 days after the treatment for second, third and fourth instars were 1.73 (0.99-2.71, 95% CL), 5.03 (3.29-7.16) and 13.37 (9.31-18-71) ppm azadirachtin, respectively, suggesting that younger larvae were more susceptible to neem than older instars. The acute toxicity of Neemix 4.5 to N. abietis larvae was comparable to that of the orgaophosphate insecticide Dylox 420 EC.
