Abstract

This report examines the domestic consumption patterns of forest products for the period 1960-1983 as well as projecting the domestic consumption to the year 2000.

The projection methodology involves a two-step procedure. First, multiple regression analysis is used to relate the consumption of a specific forest product to a distributed lag of some general measure of economic activity (e.g. real gross domestic product in the construction industry). Second, forecasts of the measures of economic activity up to the year 2000 are obtained and placed into the models developed in step 1 in order to generate the final projections.

The preparation of this report was materially assisted by our colleagues Peter Larose, Romain Jacques, Mike Daniel and the Statistical Support Services Group.
