Experimental aerial spraying was carried out over 3 years; results show that Bacillus thuringiensis 3a3b (B.t.) can be applied at 2.0 L/ha (final volume) to efficiently control C. fumiferana Clemens. For dosages of 22 to 25 x 109 International Units/ha and for C. fumiferana populations varying from 0.06 to 0.16 larvae/bud, these B.t. applications caused 90 to 100% mortality. Defoliation was limited between 2.3 and 15.8%. These results compare advantageously with those obtained during sprayings with B.t. at 2.5L/ha. Moreover, it was also observed that the Futura XLV suspension (preparation ready for application at 2.0 L/ha for a dosage of 25 x 109 I.U./ha) has great efficiency and economical potential for the operational control of C. fumiferana and conifer foliage protection.
