Abstract
A computer system to assist nursery staff in identifying problems, especially insects and diseases, has been developed. The development and use of the system, which is based on the combination of expert system and hypermedia technologies, is described. Expert knowledge of effects of cultural practices and growing conditions on likelihood of problems is captured in the system, and permits earlier diagnosis of problems than is possible when only signs and symptoms are considered.
