Collection of data regarding timber harvests on federal Crown lands was introduced by the former Dominion Forest Service (now Forestry Canada) in 1940. Since then, the data have been collected by various units of Foresty Canada. Although internal records were kept, no data prior to 1971 were published; the data have been published for all years since 1971.

Starting with the 1985-86 fiscal year, data have been collected and published on the stumpage revenues received for the wood harvested from federal lands. Since 1987-88, information regarding silvicultural activities on federal lands has also been included.

The present report covers the fiscal years 1988-89 and 1989-90.
