Abstract
Results from three small-scale experiments to study methods of regenerating jack pine stands growing on clay soils in western Manitoba have been generally unsatisfactory. Methods tested were site preparation by scalping or disking, scattering of cone-bearing slash, and planting. Failure to obtain satisfactory results was largely attributed to seedling mortality caused by elk browsing and by vegetative competition.
