Abstract
Blue-stained balsam fir wood [Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.] consistently yielded cultures of a nonsporulating fungus which were found to be the same as those obtained from ascospores of Amphisphaeria thujina (Peck) Sacc. collected from dead branches of this host. This blue stain appears to be identical with a previously reported but hitherto unidentified stain of conifers. The association of Amphisphaeria with stain in living trees does not appear to have been recognized before.
