The layout and method of sampling of a standard test plot is described. Insect density is determined before and at intervals after application of the insecticide. The insect reduction is calculated as the ratio of the decrease in population density after treatment to the density which would have been present at the same time without treatment. Spray characteristics and dosage are determined from dye-sensitive cards and glass slides spaced at intervals in the test plot. A correlation of all data gives a measure of the biological effectiveness, in terms of the amount deposited and the droplet characteristics of the system.
