Plain Language Summary
The manuscript shows that the current paradigm of using bucket style traps to monitor C. pinus needs to be deconstructed and we need to get back to the basic traps used originally: disposable wing traps. This publication may improve surveys for C. pinus, particularly for detection of populations before damage occurs. Many provinces use bucket traps to survey for C. pinus; they may switch to wing traps as a result of this publication.
