Plain Language Summary
While undertaking trapping investigations on the alien flat-headed borer, the European oak borer, Agrilus sulcicollis, we capture a significant number of adults of a native flat-headed borer that had not been reported previously from Canada and was rarely collected elsewhere in North America. The beetle, Ptosima walshii, was collected on sticky- band traps, and green prism traps deployed on oak trees from seven sites in southwestern Ontario. Host plants and flight period of the beetle are discussed. Specimens of the beetle have been deposited in the Canadian National Collection of Insects and Arachnids, The University of Guelph Insect Collection and the Great Lakes Forestry Centre Insect Collection.
