The objective and scope of this newsletter article is to inform members of the Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP) of events associated with an on-going project: the BlueSky Canada Smoke Forecasting System. The BlueSky Canada system predicts smoke from wildland fires, which can have a large impact on the health and safety of Canadians through poor air quality. The BlueSky system provides a means of predicting where smoke will go over the next 60 hours. The article the goes on to describe smoke from the recent fire season and the National Smoke Forum event, held in Halifax, which brought various stakeholders together to discuss the future direction of smoke forecasting.
