Upland boreal forest communities (Associations) of Eastern Canada are classified within Macrogroup M495 [Eastern North American Boreal Forest] of the Canadian National Vegetation Classification (CNVC). In total, 55 Associations have been determined for M495 based on vegetation characteristics that relate to ecological conditions. This report presents the Associations and explains the ecological characteristics used in their determination. It also provides instructions for determining an Association from plot data or from constituent or correlated provincial or regional vegetation types.
