Spruce budworm is the most destructive native forest defoliator in North America. Outbreaks of this budworm occur every 30-40 years, with high levels of defoliation persisting for 10 years during an outbreak. This document describes the life cycle, appearance, damage and control measures available for managing spruce budworm outbreaks.
