This study presents an approach for correcting infrared airborne imagery of wildfires. During the course of the airborne campaign multiple critical systems used to automatically correct airborne imagery failed which ordinarily would have rendered the data unusable. In an effort to recover this valuable dataset, the authors developed a methodology to correct the data in the absence of these onboard systems. Although this is somewhat case specific, the approach is applicable to other airborne remote sensing experiments where the ideal instrument setups are not available (e.g. using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or ad-hoc short-term aircraft access).
