Plain Language Summary

This publication is a chapter in the book “Applied Data Science: Data Translators Across the Disciplines” edited by D. G. Woolford, D. Kotsopoulos and B. Samuels, 2023, Springer. Our chapter focuses on how wildland fire science can help inform wildland fire management. We outline a conceptual knowledge exchange framework that is tailored to a wildland fire management context. We further discuss important factors from the literature that hinder or help the development and integration of science in fire management operations. This work will be helpful to inform the way we train and approach innovation in wildland fire.
