Profile
Dr. Gauthier joined the Canadian Forest Service in 1993, initially with the Petawawa National Forestry Institute, and then with the Laurentian Forestry Centre in Québec. She is an associate member of the Centre for Forest Research (CFR), and an adjunct professor in biology at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), in forestry at Université Laval and in applied science at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT). She supervises graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Author of some 60 scientific articles, her work focuses on the characterization of past, present and future fire regimes in eastern Canada and the effects of forest fires on stand dynamics in softwood and mixed boreal forests. In addition, her goal is to use this knowledge to develop ecosystem management strategies. Of particular note, she oversaw the compilation of the book entitled Ecosystem Management in the Boreal Forest that was published in French in 2008 and in English in 2009, for which she received the Georges-Préfontaine award from the Association des biologistes du Québec (ABQ) as well as an award from the assistant deputy minister of the Canadian Forest Service.
