Chelene Krezek-Hanes is a physical scientist with the fire and climate change group at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre (GLFC). She conducts studies in fire behavior using spatial analysis tools including remote sensing and geographic information systems.
Most of her research to date has been focused on the analysis and testing of thermal infrared remote sensing to measure fire radiative energy. This work is being conducted with Tim Lynham (GLFC) and Martin Wooster (Kings College London, UK). As well she has started work with Mike Wotton (UofT/GLFC) to develop new lightning models to aid in fire occurrence prediction. Other areas of interest include remote sensing of soil moisture to improve drought code adjustments.
