| Ecosystem Disservices |
Ecosystem disservices are outcomes from living and non-living components of ecosystems that have direct negative effects on human society and well-being. These can impact society (e.g., wildfires, infrastructure damage), portions of society (e.g., people with pollen allergies), or individuals (e.g., damage to property). |

| Ecosystem Services |
Ecosystem services (ES) are the services produced by living and non-living components of ecosystems that contribute or benefit human society and well-being. They are typically divided into four categories: provisioning, regulating, cultural and supporting.
- Provisioning ecosystem services result in material goods (e.g., wood and food).
- Regulating ecosystem services support habitable conditions (e.g., carbon storage and flood control).
- Cultural ecosystem services contribute to non-material benefits (e.g., recreation and aesthetic values).
- Supporting ecosystem services underpin the other three categories (e.g., soil creation and nutrient cycling). |

| Near-urban / peri-urban forests |
Near-urban (also called peri-urban) refers to the interface between urban and rural or wildland areas that is neither entirely urban or rural but is at least partly urbanized or settled (See also Wildland-urban interface). |
Forêts périurbaine |
| Urban Forestry |
Urban and near-urban forestry refers to the science and / or management of the trees, forests and associated organisms within the urban forest, including their uses, establishment, and resilience for economic, environmental, social, and public health benefits.
This branch of forestry includes techniques, and policy to manage urban and near-urban forests to produce ecosystem services (e.g., cooling effect) and mitigate ecosystem disservices (e.g., fire risk management) for human and ecosystem health. |

| Wildland-urban interface |
The wildland-urban interface broadly refers to the area where forests meet houses and infrastructure that is part of communities (See also near-urban / peri-urban). |
